The 2 A.M. Convenience Store

We are not supposed to be seen together, so of course we end up at the same convenience store at two in the morning, both of us in masks, both of us pretending to read the ramyeon labels.

He bumps my cart on purpose. I bump his back. It is the most reckless thing either of us has done all year, and it is only shopping carts.

Under the fluorescent lights, over shared banana milk, he smiles at me like the cameras have all gone home. Seolleim, my grandmother would call it. That flutter. I call it dangerous.
